This cotton huipil is gorgeous, large and heavy. It is hand embroidered on both sides.
San Mateo Ixtatan is located in the highlands of Huehuetenango whre the weather is very cold. So this is the reason why Huipiles are so heavy; to maintain body warmth.
This piece displays stars, flowers, birds and geometric designs as main patterns. The round neckline is trimmed and decorated with different satin fabrics and lace decoration.
Three pieces of loom-woven material that are sewn together along their length, folded in half lengthwise, and folded so that the ends can also be joined together to form a tube, but leaving room for the armholes .
